There are a number of ways to do this, however I think the easiest and fastest way is to download Flickr’s free app. Within the Flickr app you surf over to my photo feed to view the images (if you make me a contact then I’ll appear in the flickr contact list). When you find one you like, just click the download button and save the image directly to your phone/tablet. Quick & Simple!

Smartphones are now becoming like mini-PCs with a range of functions on top of messaging and calls. A typical smart phone now has around 8 GB of memory capacity and a fast dual core processor supporting video, music, mobile internet, 3D graphics and a range of digital services.

The huge success of the Apple App Store was widely imitated by a number of other providers with RIM’s BlackBerry and Google Android (with its Android Market application store) also providing their own variants. By mid-2009 the Apple App Store alone had 225,000 apps available with Google Market having a further 65,000 apps available for download.

The growth of the smart phone segment is particularly strong in mature markets. Half of all handsets sold in Japan – as of 2009 †can be classified as smart phones, with the US smart phone penetration forecast to reach 50% of all handsets by the end of 2011.

However, smart phone penetration is not so strong in emerging markets where there is a greater proportion of Pre Pay subscribers.

In markets such as India and Latin America for example, smart phone handset penetration rates are currently less than 10%.

In mature markets the smart phone is typically sold as part of a Pay Monthly package with the MNO partly or wholly subsidising the purchase cost of the handset in return for an 18 month or 24 month contract term. There are signs that smart phones are also being sold into the Pre Pay sector, with individual MNOs providing “entry-level” versions of higher specification devices for purchase with Pre Pay mobile data coupons.

As with any repair, being without electronics and gadgets such as a phones, whilst it has been sent off for repair is a real inconvenience, especially the case with Smartphones, they makes us so mobile and contactable that when we don’t have them it seems a part of our daily attire is missing. Therefore an option is now available that takes away the need to send your Smartphone off for repair, avoiding the many inconveniences that go with the repair, and bringing a whole list of benefits that help you achieve your need – a new working Smartphone, quickly and easily.

The other downsides to Smartphone repairs are the time that it takes for a successful repair, the not knowing of who is dealing with your phone that contains a lot of personal information, and also not being絤% sure that the repair will last and that you will not end up in the same situation again shortly, requiring more repairs for your phone, bringing with it more inconveniences and worries.

The solution is a simple one, trade or sell your Smartphone, eliminating the need of phone repair, and getting paid for it regardless of it’s condition.

This is a swift and easy transaction that will help reimburse the fee of your new Smartphone, resting assured that it won’t be needing repair anytime soon. There are many other benefits that come with this process also, not only the quickness in which you receive your money, the amount you get paid will seriously discount the price of a new phone, in some cases it will be the cheaper option to sending your Smartphone for repair.

The next set of benefits are the convenience based ones; providing you select the right company to trade with it can be done online, in minutes and won’t cost you a cent.

The shipping, packaging and insurance are all covered by the recycling company – another benefit that is not found with Smartphone repair specialists. And the personal detail worry is eliminated unlike phone repair, as son as the company receive your phone all personal details and the memory are erased for your security and integrity.

This is not the end of the benefits, they stretch as far as the environmental issues and reducing the e-waste which is another ability you have to be green that you don’t receive with Smartphone or cell phone repairs – and you get paid for it, you don’t have to pay. With this said I will leave you with the following thought; is it better to pay for the phone repair and inconveniences, or get paid to benefit and end up with a new Smartphone?

I’m sure many of us will choose the right answer, so for starting your recycling and benefits, and avoiding the Smartphone repair costs visit http://www.cashforsmartphones.com.

Motorola Q Phone (sucks)
smartphone software

When AT&T shut off my employee line (since I no longer work there) I thought I’d try another carrier, and another phone. So I bought a Motorola Q from Sprint online.

My Opinion (and it’s only my opinion)
It’s slow and unresponsive. It’s supposed to have a 400Mhz CPU (same speed as my PC in 2000 had), but takes multiple seconds to respond to menu choices and clicks. Maybe it’s the bus or overall architecture? I don’t know.

It felt like using a Samsung Blackjack (which also sucks, I supported them before).

Another cool thing.. I signed up for the "everything" plan, since it sounded really good. But when I went to find out how to install the "Sprint Navigation" (GPS) software the documentation said to "open the browser and search for `nav’." So I open the web browser, and it shows a bunch of favorites (stock bookmark links), but nowhere to search for `nav’. Nice.

So I call *2 (Sprint’s version of 611) and some very polite guy in some Spanish speaking country takes my call (I had to repeat every sentence I spoke, no exaggeration), and after several holds decides he can’t help me and needs to transfer me to the technical support line, where I hold for several more minutes before losing patience and hanging up while still on hold. I guess the call center in Bangalore was busy last night.. who knows.

All of this GPS navigation shit is made my TeleNav (including Sprint’s), so I thought I’d just go there and download the shit for Sprint and the Moto Q and just make it work. No go. Just like with AT&T the TeleNav folks sell their own stuff as well as license it to the carriers, so I needed to get it from Sprint. Fuck.

I decided fuck this, called Sprint and canceled, and then called AT&T. And just like the last time I left (for the summer of 2007) they hooked me up with a consumer plan (a cheaper one, .99/mo, not available to the unwashed masses) with no contract since it was coming from an employee line. So now my old Motorola V3xx is live again, with my old phone number (Yay) and all is well again. It’s a happy thing.

I know GSM/(GPRS/EDGE/UMTS) devices like the back of my hand anyway. So maybe I should just stick with what I know. Change is good sometimes, but sometimes it’s not.

Note to the Fortune 500:
If you make it hard to obtain and use your services I will cancel my service with you. If your phone reps can’t help me and I have to wait on hold for a long time I will cancel. If you sell slower technology than what’s expected at the time I will cancel. I have no loyalty to any corporation or name brand, you are all disposable commodities to me. Fuck you all.

More about the Sidekick 4g: bit.ly In the software tour of the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, we start off by talking about the default interface of the device, which is different than the stock Froyo launcher, but is effective and easy to use. The Sidekick 4G comes with a Feeds and Updates widget which can only be updated once per day; a sticky notes widget which saves your favorite text messages; and several others. The smartphone also lets you change to a variety of nice-looking themes that change the look and feel of the homescreen. Then we go over the jump key settings which makes it quick and easy to launch apps with the keyboard. There’s a way to change the color of the LED notification light, which is a nice touch to help customize the Sidekick 4G. There’s also a way to customize the action of a slide-up action in the lock screen. There’s a group messaging SMS feature, plus the ability to do WiFi calling.
