There was a time was when phones were just phones. Here we are speaking of fixed landline. One could engage in a two-way talk with other person on the other end. That was all to it. There were problems aplenty about disconnection, mixed connection, or no connection at all. That was the thing of the past and nobody remembers those days now.

With the arrival of mobile communication technology, all things changed at astounding speed. Now the person at the other end is mostly available and if not, he or she at least gets the message. The incidences of avoiding the communication was not possible now (it has its flip side also, but that is altogether a separate matter).
